With the big event in Washington today, being the most digitally streamed inauguration in history you’d think everyone with a device would have been streaming today. But not me.
USTREAM, the live broadcasting site, was streaming the event today, but their app only allows a WiFi connection , most likely due to the developer restrictions set by Apple.
Without an available WiFi connection I was limited to viewing my Twitter network, where all my jailbroken friends were watching the #inaug09 using their VOIPover3G apps to mask the 3G connection as WiFi.
I’ll give Apple a break on the WiFi restrictions it puts on streaming apps, but it’s been six months since the launch of the 3G and I’m still waiting for basic device necessities like Copy & Paste, which by the way is possible on jailbroken phones using apps like Clippy.
The way in which Apple runs the app store is enough to drive enthusiasts mad. I’ve been waiting for Qik for an eternity and I’m beginning to wonder if it will even happen. Once again my jailbreak crew are enjoying the latest and greatest buzzed must have app. Why would Apple want jailbreak on the cutting edge?? I want to be the bleeding edge.
Apple, I’m being tormented by my peer’s. The reasons I had for not jailbreaking are being dwarfed by my geek requirements. The list grows increasingly high and it gets harder for me to sleep, as I think of the things I could be doing. I appreciate your insistence to shepherd the whole experience but your ability to compete will become maligned as you make your biggest cheerleaders (Hello”?…I’m @iPhonegirl) wait until your competitors force your hand.
So there it is. The comments below should reflect the community’s thoughts. I say if you give me at least these two things, I’ll stay loyal. Qik and Copy & Paste.
